Our adoption process: Fill out an adoption questionnaire (cats here) to get pre-approved to adopt. A member of our team will reach out with more information as soon as possible.
This will allow you to get pre-approved not for a specific animal, but for any dog or cat at the shelter. Animals cannot be adopted as gifts or surprises. Our goal is to match you with your perfect companion. We like to get to know you a little better and find out what you are looking for in a pet and your pet's routine during the conversation.
Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and provide proof of residency.
Each adoption starts with an approved application. If an animal you are interested in is not ready to be adopted you may let us know you are interested in them. This does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt the pet. Animals are not available for adoption until they have been spayed/neutered and are deemed healthy. Once the animal is ready to leave, we offer the first chance to meet with the animal to the OLDEST PREAPPROVED APPLICANT. If you have other dogs we may have you bring them to the shelter to introduce them to the pet you are looking to adopt to assure they get along before you bring your new pet home. You can put the pet on hold for 24-hours after meeting them. Once you've made your decision, we can complete the adoption. If you are still unsure but would like to try a visit with the pet in your home, we offer a foster-to-adopt option. This will allow you a trial period to ensure this is a good fit between you and the pet.
Owning a pet is a lifelong commitment. Pet owners must be able to spend not only time with the pet, but also have the resources to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for your new family member.
Our mission is to place animals in forever homes. It can be difficult for an animal to make the transition to a new home only to be brought back to the shelter. We encourage you to consider your choice of pet carefully before making a final decision.
Please note that in some cases we receive an animal with special needs. When necessary for the health and well-being of that animal we will evaluate all adoption applications and select the one that we feel fits the needs of that animal.
You'll Also Receive These Additional Benefits:
At the time of the adoption, adopters will receive a copy of the pet’s health records and rabies tag. All cats will have been Feline Leukemia/FIV tested, spayed or neutered, rabies vaccination and a feline distemper vaccine/boosters, and microchipped. We proudly feed all of our animals Hills products, and we recommend you do the same as you start your journey to happily ever after. You will receive a complimentary bag of Hills food upon adoption.
We have an ADOPTION GUARANTEE! If you need to return your adopted animal for whatever reason, you can do so. All we ask is for you to call to schedule a return and you will receive an adoption credit voucher.
Adoption Fees vary but on average are as follows:
-
Cats: $50 (7 months to 5 years old)
-
Senior cats $30 (6+ years old)

Adoption fees are determined based on a variety of factors such as age, size, length of stay and public demand. We do our best to ensure our adoption fees are reasonable and affordable to the general public. That is why we set fees well below the actual cost of your pet’s care during their stay. The adoption fees help NOKHS to cover a portion of the cost of your animal’s medical care, food, and housing during their stay with us. Adding a donation to your adoption fee is always welcome, as it helps save more lives.

At PCHuS we lower the adoption fee to $25 for these special animals that have been available for adoption at the shelter for 100 days or more, in order to encourage adoptions of these furry friends. (Note: There is $5 processing fee on all adoptions.)
YOU CAN’T BUY LOVE. BUT YOU CAN ADOPT IT.
Because animals are adopted every day the one you may be interested in, may or may not be available when you visit the shelter, so please keep that in mind. This gallery is updated on a daily basis in order to keep it current with new arrivals.
